When playing badminton, do you call the thingy you hit a birdie or a shuttlecock?

I love saying "shuttlecock".|||A dog named Minton chewed 2 shuttlecocks. His owner caught him and said 'Bad Minton.' ( I call the thingy a birdie)|||Birdie|||I call it a "birdie" - as I do not like the thought of hitting a shuttlecock|||I don't play badminton.|||Birdie|||birdie|||its a feather butt!!|||I have always called it a 'birdie'.|||Either way is acceptable. The technical term is a shuttlecock but if you are just playing for fun in the backyard or something then you can just call it a birdie.|||I've never heard it referred to as a 'birdie' only a shuttlecock.|||I've always called it a birdie.|||Keep your eye on the Birdie|||a birdie.
