Where did "cock" come from?

I have been enlightened as to other meanings of "cock" besides a male bird thingy (%26amp; that other thingy).

It can be a mechanical device to stop gas or liquids. It can also be the object you whack in badminton, (shuttlecock).

So where did "cock" come from?

What was it's original purpose or meaning?

How did it evolve into so many meanings?

Could a sensible sentence be constructed using mostly "cock" %26amp; words containing "cock"?|||The word cock is probably ultimately of onomatopoeic origin, imitative of the male fowl鈥檚 call (like the lengthier English cock-a-doodle-doo (16th c.), French coquerico, and German kikeriki). Beyond that it is difficult to go with any certainty; it reflects similar words in other languages, such as medieval Latin coccus and Old Norse kokkr, but which if any the English word was borrowed from is not clear. It has been suggested that it goes back to a Germanic base *kuk-, of which a variant was the source of chicken, but typical Old English spellings, such as kok and kokke, suggest that it may have been a foreign borrowing rather than a native Germanic word 鈥?perhaps pointing to Germanic coccus. The origin of the interconnected set of senses 鈥榮pout, tap鈥? 鈥榟ammer of a firearm鈥? and 鈥榩enis鈥?is not known; it is possible that it represents an entirely different word, but the fact that German hahn 鈥榟en鈥?has the same meanings suggests otherwise.

Of derived words, cocker (19th c.), as in 鈥榗ocker spaniel鈥? comes from cocking, the sport of shooting woodcock, and cocky (18th c.) is probably based on the notion of the cock as a spirited or swaggering bird, lording it over his hens (there may well be some connection with cock 鈥榩enis鈥? too, for there is an isolated record of cocky meaning 鈥榣echerous鈥?in the 16th century). Cockerel (15th c.) was originally a diminutive form.

It's interesting isn't it? As to a sentence with all words containing cock... hmm...

So the cocky cockeral coc.ked his head and cock-a-doodle-dooed. Does that count? (I had to put that full stop in so it wasn't starred out)|||Word Origin %26amp; History

cock

O.E. cocc , O.Fr. coq , O.N. kokkr , all of echoic origin. O.E. cocc was a nickname for "one who strutted like a cock," thus a common term in the Middle Ages for a pert boy, used of scullions, apprentices, servants, etc. A common personal name till c.1500, it was affixed to Christian names as a pet diminutive, cf. Wilcox, Hitchcock , etc. Slang sense of "penis" is attested since 1618 (but cf. pillicock "penis," from c.1300); cock-teaser is from 1891. A cocker spaniel (1823) was trained to start woodcocks. Cock-and-bull is first recorded 1621, perhaps an allusion to Aesop's fables, with their incredible talking animals, or to a particular story, now forgotten. French has parallel expression coq-脿-l'芒ne .

cock

in various mechanical senses, such as cock of a faucet (late 15c.) is of uncertain connection with cock (n.1), but Ger. has hahn "hen" in many of the same senses. The cock of an old matchlock firearm is 1560s, hence half-****** "with the cock lifted to the first catch, at which position the trigger does not act."

cock

seeming contradictory senses of "to stand up" (as in cock one's ear ), c.1600, and "to bend" (1898) are from the two cock nouns. The first is probably in reference to the posture of the bird's head or tail, the second to the firearm position. To cock ones hat carries the notion of "defiant boastfulness" also in M.E. cocken (c.1150) "to fight."

Online Etymology Dictionary, 漏 2010 Douglas Harper|||I dont know the answer, but I find it so intresting that you are trying to learn about the origin of the word cock hahahahah good one. Let me know when u find out.

How do you tell a friend if shes being boastful?

so when she plays badminton, and when her partner didnt hit the shuttlecock she gots mad and she humiliates her partner by saying "you are so stupid!" etc. then one day, our badminton instructor arrange a badminton game for us. by the way her name is rose. Rose's partner is Mary(Mary wasnt really good). And Me and my partner Jenny which is far worst than Mary. Well the game is not really you know, like the games of the profs. Change court at 7.haha.Well they won the first set. they got 7 and we got 3.so we changed courts. My partner is kinda slow. Yet, I act like I dont really care.I dont wanna hurt her feelings.Everytime Rose and Mary gets a score, they dance, laugh etc. So I really got mad and whenever I get scores they were like " okay be serious now!". I really hate them.But in the end, WE WON!and thank god for that. now how can i tell her shes so boastful? oh and after the game they were like they said "we want rematch bec. we werent really in a good mood."|||It sounds to me that your "friend" Rose needs a reality check. I have had many a friend with this sort of issue, and I can tell you, the easiest thing to do is to give it to them straight. If you think that the problem is serious enough, and you really want to save your friendship, then arrange a time when you and Rose can be alone and talk. Be careful not to be too mean, but make sure that you get the message across that you don't like her when she acts that way. If she doesn't respect your answer, than she probably isn't a very good friend, and you should find someone else. (Hopefully, this will give you a little insight... Good luck!)|||boastful friends?

Have I dislocated my shoulder? ?

I was playing badminton in p.e and I was being stupid and tryin to hit the shuttlecock and spin around at the same time and when I spun and hit the shuttlecock I felt my shoulder pop and go back in again . After that I was in alot of pain and on the floor. Did I dislocate it or just twist it (it still hurts now)? If I did dislocate it do I have to go to the doctors?|||If it is dislocated you probably do need to go to the doctor. Complications of a dislocated shoulder may include:

Tearing of the muscles, ligaments and tendons that reinforce your shoulder joint

Nerve or blood vessel damage in or around your shoulder joint

Susceptibility to re-injury (shoulder instability) if you have a severe dislocation or repeated dislocations

If ligaments or tendons in your shoulder have been stretched or torn, or if nerves or blood vessels surrounding your shoulder joint have been damaged, you may need surgery to repair these tissues.

Most people regain full shoulder function within a few weeks after experiencing a dislocated shoulder. However, once you've had a dislocated shoulder your joint may become unstable and be prone to repeat dislocations. You should probably not ski for at least three or four weeks.

The Mayo clinic has excellent information about care of a dislocated shoulder, so check here.

Anyone know the UK rules of badminton? I'm a bit unsure?

1. What happens when the shuttlecock lands on the white line? Is it in or out?

2. Your opponent hits the shuttlecock, you try and return it and miss, but it lands out of play anyway. Is that your point (it was out) or his point (because you tried to return it, even though you missed)?|||1. Lines are considered 'in.'

2. During a rally, you can only get points when you serve. So, if your opponent serves the birdie and, at the end of the rally, he hits it and it lands out, he does not get a point and the serve is yours. If you serve the bird and, at the end of the rally your opponent hits the bird out, that's your point.

Remember, though, that if you touch the bird (with your racket or your body), that is counted as 'hitting' it (the same as if you hit it and it went sideways out of the court). So, if the bird lands out but you touched it, your opponent gets the point if he served. If the bird lands out and you touched it after your serve, no one gets a point and it's your opponent's turn.

As far as I know, those rules are universal to the sport, but those answers are based on my experience in the US.

Feathers in shuttlecocks are made out of? and the cork? why?

i need this now...please answer. thanks|||The feathers are brittle; shuttlecocks break easily and often need to be replaced several times during a game. For this reason, synthetic shuttlecocks have been developed that replace the feathers with a plastic skirt. Players often refer to synthetic shuttlecocks as plastics and feathered shuttlecocks as feathers.

The cost of good quality feathers is similar to that of good quality plastics, but plastics are far more durable, typically lasting many matches without any impairment to their flight. For this reason, many clubs prefer to play with plastics.

The playing characteristics of plastics and feathers are substantially different. Plastics fly more slowly on initial impact, but slow down less towards the end of their flight. Feather shuttles may come off the strings at speeds in excess of 320 km/h (200 mph) but slow down faster as they drop. For this reason, the feather shuttle makes the game seem faster, but also allows more time to play strokes.

Most experienced and skillful players greatly prefer feathers, and serious tournaments or leagues are almost always played using feather shuttlecocks. Experienced players generally prefer the "feel" of feathered shuttlecocks, and assert that they are better able to control the flight of feathers than of plastics. Because feather shuttles fly more quickly off the racquet face they also tend to cause less shoulder impact and injury. In Asia, where feather shuttlecocks are more affordable than in Europe and North America, plastic shuttlecocks are hardly used at all. All senior international tournaments use only feather shuttlecocks of the highest quality.

Avoiding wood shots in badminton?

When I play badminton, it seems to me occasionally-half the time, the shuttlecock (birdie) hits either the rim or the neck of my racket. And I don't know if my aim is in fault of that, because I can't quite seem to estimate where the shuttlecock is going to hit when it comes to me. Help? Thanks.|||Your problem originates from a lack of proper form and experience. Try to correct your form as quickly as possible; the longer you play with a wrong one, the harder it will be to overcome it.

Proper form is basically turning your body as you hit, contacting the bird as high as possible, and having your left hand up for balance. Unfortunately, I'm not at a level in which I can teach proper form through an answer; ask a coach or someone you know who can help you with this.

If form isn't your problem (although it most likely is), then as you play more and more, you will get the timing down and it will become second nature.

Additionally, I know you are already concerned about wood hits, but just in case you need extra motivation, wood / frame hits kll birds faster costing more money for more birds, have a chance to snap strings, and damage the racket itself.

Overall, make sure that your hitting form is correct and try your best not to make mistakes. Hope this helps!|||Wear a cup. Glad I could help.

Which is better? feathered or synthetic shuttlecocks in badminton...?

My brother thinks that featherd ones are better but i told him otherwise.|||Feathered ones are for playing in the yard with a sweater draping your shoulders. Cup of lemonade in one hand, badminton racket in the other. Not even breaking a sweat. In one word feathered birdies are:

CLASSY

For the more practical user try a synthetic shuttlecock, they go faster and last longer. Plus it's what all the pros are using since oh about 1912.|||Feather ones are faster and make the game way more intense, but they break apart really fast too.

And to the guy above, badminton isn't gay at all man.|||I think feathered it makes for a more natural game, but really there is little to no difference between the things themselves.|||No offense, but the answer considering that pros use synthetic shuttlecocks is totally wrong.

Feather birds are actually the official equipment for badminton. People use plastic / synthetic birds mostly for cost purposes; they last longer and they cost less.

As for 'better', it depends on what you think. Feather birds fly better and are the official equipment. Plastic birds are more cost-efficient and last longer, but their added weight causes racket strings to pop more often.

Hope this helps!|||From a playing point of view, feathers are the better shuttlecock. There are differences in flight speeds, flight trajectory and overall feel on a racket. In all these areas, a feather shuttlecock wins every time.

Plastic/synthetic shuttles were introduced because of the rising cost of feathers. They do not play like a feather and cause more arm and shoulder injuries in players.

However, if playing the game is down to cost, then plastic/synthetic shuttles will last considerably longer and cost a lot less too.

Many leagues play with feathers and there are only a handful that will use plastics. All county or international matches are played with feather shuttlecocks.

Sorry but your brother is right - feather shuttecocks are the ideal choice for badminton.

Does anyone have any pictures of a kid's playground 'ride' that was (nick)named 'The Bobby's Helmet'?

Explain energy interconversions?

Please explain the energy interconversions of a shuttlecock..:):) and please compare the energy in a normal shuttlecock and a doubled mass shuttlecock?|||When a badminton bat is moving, it is having momentum. Transfer of momentum from bat to shuttlecock within a time period is a force. The amount of momentum (not impulsive force) being transferred is in conjunction with contact time in between racket and shuttlecock, that is, the longer the contact time, the more momentum is transferred. For a trivial bit, the elasticity of racket net determines the contact time. So, force = (mv-MV)/t %26lt;=%26gt; ft = (delta mv)

How To Reduce Racquet Noise?

I own tennis and badminton racquets and they make irritating echo noises because of the aluminum. the shock absorber doesn't help reduce the noise and the echo noise gets in the way of hearing a nice "plop" sound when i hit the tennis ball or shuttlecock. does anyone know what i need to do to reduce or get rid of the noise? i dont want to change strings or switch to graphite raqcuets.

thanks!|||Get real. Aluminium racquets are such old material that why bother to consider them. The are currently sold as a cheap $20 racquet for little kids who don;t have the power to realyl felx a frame. Even for kids, most manufacturers offer a premium carbon fibre or fused titanium model. The Aluminium racquets offers for adults are basically offered by low price "big box" stores to sucker you into thinking you are getting a "tennis racuqet".|||Richard is right. Aluminum racquets are highly outdated since the 80s. I honesty think you should just switch to another racquet.

But if anything, get a special dampener called the Babolat RVS. The dampener doesn't just take out vibration from the strings, but the frame itself. It may help a bit.|||Do not have your racket restrung as the strings would be worth more than your racket. Save your money and upgrade as soon as you can. Which bird's feathers are used for badminton shuttlecocks?

haha- you said shuttlecocks!|||Plastic ones.|||The best feather badminton shuttlecocks are made from wing feathers from a goose. Second grade shuttlecocks are made from duck wing feathers.|||Goose Feathers

A shuttlecock is a high-drag projectile used in the sport of badminton. It has an open conical shape, with a rounded head at the apex of the cone traditionally made of cork and a skirt traditionally of sixteen overlapping goose feathers.

For most casual players, the cork-and-feather construction has been replaced by the use of a plastic (usually nylon) or rubber head and a plastic (usually nylon) skirt. The feather shuttlecock is still used by serious players and for competitions. The feathered variety is more expensive and far more likely to break during a match.|||Shuttlecocks are traditionally made from 16 goose feathers which are taken from under the same bird's wing and then cleaned, cut and attached to a base of Portuguese cork.

What are shuttlecocks made out of?

the thing you hit in badminton. What are they made out of NOW.|||Shuttlecocks, are made with an open conical shape with a rounded cork base which is covered with either leather or plastic into which sixteen overlapping goose feathers are embedded. Once the feathers have been thrust into the cork, glue is used to secure the feathers in place. The glue used on some of the professional birdies can take up to a week to dry. Once the glue has dried, the feathers are evenly bound with thread which is also glued into place. The threads can either be placed using machines similar to sewing machines or completed by hand.|||plastic-cork-feathers ;)

Is it true that if you put badminton shuttlecocks in the refrigerator they'll be more durable?

my teacher in PE adviced me that.|||I don't know. I think cold makes plastics and rubber more brittle so I would think it would be LESS durable.|||Ive never heard of that saying myself, but who knows it could work fine.

i dont know the exact difference though :P

Where to buy good badminton shuttlecocks?

i figured a sporting goods store would carry them, but i went to Dick's and could only find birdies that one would play with possibly in their backyard. im fine with the nylon, however if i can find the feathered ones at a store near me (Chicago IL) that would be wonderful as well. nylon's fine as long as i can play a realistic match (the birdies i had bought from Dick's were not realistic in that they would clear the entire court by a mere flick of my wrist)|||Olympus sell feathered ones,.|||Well i was able to buy some at a local walmart so you might want to see if yours carries some too they are a little more expensive though.

Help with how to play badminton?

I have just started playing badminton, but i am unsure about things like:

how the shuttlecock toss helps determine who serves

who serves in doubles and when you have to swap sides with your partner

basic rules

basic techniques etc

Any input and advice would be very much appreciated!|||Ok, see the link below for the simplified rules. I'll cover the some of your other questions here.

Shuttlecock toss: after tossing the shuttlecock, the side the shuttlecock points to determines who will serve first. If the shuttlecock doesn't point to a side or is hard to judge, toss it again.

Serving: the winner of the toss serves first. the side winning the point continues to serve, otherwise service is over. See link for more information.

Swapping sides: you only swap sides with your partner if you are the serving side and you win the point. Receiving side does not swap.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

What's the best badminton racket for under $30?

Explain why is the cock leading in motion when badminton game is played using three principles of physics?

when the cock of the shuttlecock is hit in badminton game, the cock turns and leads in motion and the drops on the other court till it is hit agin and the process continue|||the cock always leads the way.

Why do my shuttlecocks keep breaking in badminton?

After about 15 minutes of playing I have to get a new one because it rips and breaks. |||Are you playing with feather or plastic?

Try to hit flat with the racket face rather than slicing it. Slicing will destroy a shuttle fast.

For plastic use a good brand such as the Yonex Mavis 300 or 500 - dont use all plastic shuttles (base should be cork filled).

For feather, buy club grade shuttles - not tournament grade which dont last as long.

|||Maybe your hitting it to hard or they are not good shuttlecocks because they keep breaking in badminton.I would say they are not a good brand of shuttlecocks.I can't think of anytime eles.Hope i helped

What are good badminton strategies?

What are good badminton strategies to get points faster? What are good strategies to get points that makes it almost impossible for opponents to defend themselves and return shuttlecocks?|||That really depends on A LOT of things. Like, Singles or Doubles or Mixed Doubles, how good you and your opponent(s) are.

But really, the main strategy, is to endure a lot longer than they do. Try and hit it to places they aren't and in the end make them run. After you feel they are tired, smash. This is a really vague question...because everyone is different, there is no easy way to beat anyone...unless they have a major disadvantage.

Make them run; Smash; and hit to their backhand.|||As already noted, there is no one answer that works for everyone or for every opponent. However, here are some tips from my coaches that you can try to incorporate into your game:

1. Play an active, not reactive, game.

This means that you should be planning your shots, thinking about where you want to put the bird, evaluating your opponent's weaknesses--not waiting for a shot to get hit to you and then relying on your split-second reflexes to get it back over the net. You will get points much more quickly if you don't waste time losing the serve on easy errors and then having to gain it back.

2. If it works, keep doing it until it stops working. This is a fast way to get points at the start of a game. If your opponent can't get to your drops, keep dropping. If they don't perform well on short serves, don't hit a long one just for fun! Most people will catch on eventually, and then you will need to change your strategy, but you will be several points ahead by that point.

3. Don't be afraid to hit the same shot twice. Conventional wisdom is to vary your placement and speed of hits, and this is very good advice, but if you clear, and your opponent is rushing to the net after returning it, send another clear back there--he won't be ready for it.

And of course, all the other good stuff--footwork is key, drill your heart out, learn to serve flawlessly, etc.--will help too, but the key to getting points quickly is taking advantage of your strengths and exploiting your opponent's weaknesses. Play as many different opponents as you can to gain experience with a variety of styles. Hope this helps!

What is the process to get feather for badminton shuttle cock? how does manufacturers get feather supply?

if anybody can post pictures for manufacturing process of shuttlecock.|||The manufactures partner with franchises that serve fried chicken to produce low quality shuttle-cock.

Highest quality feather for shuttle cock come from swan.

Go and ask peta.com and you might get many videos/clips on that.|||A shuttlecock in my homecountry in Nganjuk, East Java, Indonesia get feather supplies to make shuttlecock from many places. At first, they used feathers from duck or swan from their area, because there was many duck and swans. But because of the flu bird case, it's a rather difficult to get feathers nowadays. They prefer to import it from other countries like Taiwan although their own feather quality is better.

The way of how to make shuttlecock is.

First the feathers gathered are washed and dried under the sun. Then they are selected to get best quality feathers. The good feathers are cut and then tied by a thread and glued. The glued feather is put into a cork head. Then they were pressed by to make them stay in the place. Then the shuttlecock is tested through a quality control. At last they are collected in 12 pieces.|||can i ask you something? why do you need to know? curious or what? if you are doing some research for work or school, look up google or yahoo search! dun slack and depend on us to do the research for you! do it yourself! this kind of information can be found if you do some research!! Thanks alot ...|||The string that usually makes a whip noise is in offensive rackets such as the yonex muscle power series. When i play badminton, i try to "smack" hard to the end of my opponent but doesn't go far. My strength?

is strong but it seem that the shuttlecock only reach middle of court. Is it something wrong with my badminton or simply i took weak? when i compare other players, their strength is abt same as mine but they managed to hit far back. why is that so?|||well there are diffreent types of smashes. For example, there are the deep smash, the mid court smash and the slice smash. The diffrence between these three are simply the angle or contact point. If you hit the birdie more infront, you will get more angle thus deeper. For your example, you are hitting it closer to you therefore in the middle. If you hit it right above you, you will get a deep smash. It is all about the contact point! Good Luck!|||its your form kind sir, you must make a sweeping under hand motion and hit the shuttlecock right on the nose. that will generate a correct floating flight path!

A racket and 4 shuttlecocks cost $13. The racket costs $5.50 more than shuttlecock. Find cost of a shuttlecock

"A racket and 4 shuttlecocks cost $13."

r + 4s = $13

"The racket costs $5.50 more than shuttlecock."

r = s + $5.50

Substitute in the first equation:

(s + $5.50) + 4s = $13.00

5s = $7.50

s = $1.50

So a shuttlecock costs $1.50. And then, even tho the problem doesn't ask for it:

r = $1.50 + $5.50 = $7

A racket costs $7.|||let r be the racket and s be the shuttlecock

r + 4s = 13

r = s + 5.5

(s + 5.50) + 4s = 13 (substitute)

5s + 5.50 = 13 (combine like terms)

- 5.50 -5.50

5s = 7.50

/5 /5 divide by 5 to get s by itself

s = $1.50

r = s + 5.50

r = 1.50 + 5.50

r = $7

shuttlecocks are $1.50 each($6 for 4) and the racket is $7, which would total $13.

Look in the index of your book under "Systems of Equations" or "Equations - Systems of", then look for "Substitution".|||If all five pieces cost $13, then say that the r = racket and s = shuttlecock

So, r + 4s = 13

and, if the racket is $5.50 more than one shuttlecock,

then r = s + 5.5

Substitue the second equation into the first because it is already solved for one variable (r):

s + 5.5 + 4s = 13

5s + 5.5 = 13

5s = 13 - 5.5 = 7.5

s = 7.5 / 5 = 1.5

Shuttlecock speeds??

I know this not a tennis question, but there is no badminton section and I've had no answer from "sports-general". Can anyone explain to me the uses and advantages or otherwise of the different shuttlecocks available on the market. Much obliged, thank you|||Feathered vs. synthetic shuttlecocks

The feathers are brittle; shuttlecocks break easily and often need to be replaced several times during a game.

For this reason, feather shuttle make the game seem faster but also allow more time to play strokes.

Should I wear my glasses when I play sports?

Ok, so I need glasses but I don't wear them for sport. When I play badminton, and try to focus on the shuttlecock, I get a really bad headache and my eyes feel weird. This has been happening for sometime now. Should I start wearing my glasses for sport?|||This really depends on how good your vision is without them and what sport you are playing. If you are playing golf, then eyeglasses would be ok because there is real physical contact and you are not jumping or running. In Badminton there is a chance of physical contact and you are running and jumping so there is possibly that your eyeglasses could come off and be damaged. I suggest getting contact lenses in your case.|||It's best to not wear glasses when doing sports especially if it's very active or physical. When doing active sports you'll sweat a lot, so your glasses will get misty. For physical sports, you have less peripheral vision to watch out for tackles from other players. Contacts is a better option. Of course, you can improve your eyesight using eye exercises, so you won't have to worry about wearing contacts nor glasses in sports. Plenty of websites have information on this.|||Maybe your prescription is high or it has changed so I'd advice you to wear them and have a checkup at the eye doctor's. If you want to be more comfortable, get daily contact lenses, and wear them every time you go for sports.

Flight of a shuttlecock?

During a game of badminton i was watching how the base always faces the racket. Also the plastic ones dont spin but the feathers do. Would anyone like to comment on The physics of this.|||Key to both is drag, air friction, which is D = 1/2 rho Cd A v^2 = kA v^2; where rho is air density, Cd is coefficient of drag, A is cross sectional area, and v is the air speed over the moving body (or the speed of the body through still air). The drag on a shuttlecock is relatively high because A is a relatively large cross sectional area established by the plastic cup or feathers of the trailing end.

And because the weight of a shuttlecock is light, it quickly reaches terminal speed v = sqrt(w/kA) where w = mg is the weight of the shuttlecock's mass m. g is g. This is why, in badminton, we don't see really fast speeds, like 120 mph in tennis serves. In fact, the drag acts as a braking force to actually bring the shuttlecock to a near (but not quite) halt in horizontal speed. At which time it falls nearly vertically to the gym floor.

As to the spinning of the feathered kind, that's because the feathers are not flat with the flow of air over them. They are twisted slightly like fan blades. So the change in momentum of the air flowing over the feather blades causes a twisting force on the shuttlecock.

The plastic cup, on the other hand, has no such blade shape or other form to cause the air flow to change momentum and cause a twisting force. The cup has holes, to modify the A value so it matches the regulation drag value of the feathered variety, but that's it.|||Physics is everywhere because mass and energy are everywhere... physics is the study and understanding of mass and energy.

Which is better to use when playing with a shuttlecock???

A racket or your bare hand|||my bare hand|||A partner.

When serving, your partner should bend over at the waist and wait for you to deliver the shuttlecock to your oponents. This is to prevent having the shuttle cock knock into the back of her head. An alternative position is to have your partner bend her knees slightly and drop her waist down until the shuttlecock has been delivered into the opponents court.

When playing by yourself, be sure to visualize what your shuttlecock will be doing to your opponent so that you can achieve the most advantagous serve. Your aim should be to use enough speed to catch your opponent off guard so you can drive your shuttlecock deep into her court and watch with pleasure when she moans over missing her return volley. Of course you could aim for an ace, but that is a rather difficult and tight delivery and really depends on your opponents stance.|||while your bare hand may provide for a much more intimate game, i'd say a racket

Where can I buy Chinese feathered shuttlecocks?

I'm looking for Chinese kicking shuttlecocks but I cannot find them at any store (like Dollar Tree, Michaels, ...) except online. Does anyone know where I can get them?|||Using the Internet, you can look up nearby Chinese supermarkets, which will usually have them. However, if you cannot find a Chinese supermarket nearby, you could just make your own easily! I have made my own shuttlecocks by taking a couple of quarters and binding them with string so they will not fall apart. Then I take fake colorful feathers and super glue them to the top of the stack of quarters firmly. As an extra adhesive, I painted over the glue with clear nail polish which held the feathers nicely! Either way, I hope this solved your question! :)

How do you serve in Badminton?

Whenever I try to serve, I miss the shuttlecock and it just falls down - my instructors saying something about my wrist but I don't understand him.

But if I use a Bat Tennis Bat, I can hit it great but not with the Badminton Racquet.

Thanks if you can help!|||I would start by holding the shuttlecock still by the feathers or skirt wide end. The base or round narrow and small part should point down with the holding arm stretched down in front and tilted toward the racket side. When you serve, just simply move the racket from behind and forward to use the string part to hit the round part of the shuttle cork. Use the follow through motion as well.

You should not miss the shuttle, because it is stationary.

Once you master this by hitting it nicely over the net landing where you aim, then you can hold the shuttlecock a little higher. This time just drop it before the racket hit the shuttle. You can progressively drop higher and higher or let it drop for a longer time before the racket hits the shuttle.

You can of course do this with your backhand. Some may find it easier to serve with the backhand. In general, you just hold the shuttle still when serving with the backhand.

Please note that your racket head has to be lower than your hitting hand to be a legal service.

Good luck.
